Manchester Quiz Night – Congratulations
Congratulations to all involved in the Tuckers Charity Quiz on 20 March 2014, organised by the Manchester Marketing Team at the Slug and Lettuce in Spinningfields, Manchester.
Eighteen teams took part, mainly consisting of law firms, chambers and experts. A significant number of Tuckers staff were also involved and represented the firm well during the event.
The focus of the event was to raise money for the Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity. We were aiming to raise enough money to afford for the hospital to buy a Glucose Monitoring System for children who suffer with type 1 diabetes.
The machine helps save and protect the lives of a large number of children in Greater Manchester who suffer with the illness – which attacks every major organ in a child’s body including the heart, kidneys, eyes and nerves. Specifically, type 1 diabetes can cause irreparable damage to a child’s retina, decrease blood flow to the feet and injure the walls of the blood vessels. Consequently children suffer with numbness to the limbs and slow paralysis. Type 1 diabetes can also lead children to be susceptible to cardiovascular complications such as strokes and high blood pressure. Damage to the nerve endings can also lead to renal failure.
Many of the symptoms can only be avoided through diet control and regular glucose monitoring. If dietary habits and glucose levels are not monitored, the disease can be life threatening. Type 1 diabetes cannot be predicted or cured, with monitoring and treatment of the symptoms the most effective way of managing the disease.
The quiz and subsequent raffle raised £2040.00 – £235 short of the target of £2,275 which is the cost of the machine. We are grateful to Barry Tucker & Franklin Sinclairfor agreeing to make up the shortfall in order to meet the target.
