Mackesys – what has ACTUALLY happened
Following on from the rather unhelpful and incorrect article published in the Law Society Gazette a couple of days ago (which we are trying to get amended), a statement has been agreed by Geoff Wordsworth of Mackesys, Tuckers and Warren Law – with the approval of the Legal Aid Agency:-
“Tuckers Solicitors and Warren’s Law have both agreed to assist Geoff Wordsworth in the winding down of Mackesys criminal and family practices respectively. Both firms will assist in the transfer of the conduct of Mackesys’ criminal and family law files to other law firms (including Tuckers and Warren’s Law where appropriate) and will act as a provider of last resort in the short term for those clients who do not have alternative representation in light of Mackesys ceasing to trade. This process has been undertaken with the full knowledge of the LAA and SRA throughout. All parties are working to ensure that the transfer of Mackesys’ criminal and family law files is undertaken in the most orderly way possible in order to ensure that the interests of Mackesys clients are prioritised at the same time as seeking to protect the legal aid fund and the interests of Mackesys creditors.”
