“Leveson 2” abandoned
Phil Smith, lawyer for Neil Wallis former deputy editor of the News of the World in connection with allegations of phone hacking brought before the courts and the original Leveson enquiry, has described the abandonment of the second Leveson enquiry into alleged police corruption as the “inevitable correct decision” and that this “needless” enquiry could “never be justified”.
Taking to Twitter this morning in response to the article in The Times indicating that senior sources had confirmed that the enquiry was to be shelved, Phil added that there was “no public enthusiasm” for an enquiry that would undoubtedly be extremely expensive!
