Extradition opposed in human trafficking case
Renata Pinter has successfully opposed the application to extradite Iranian national, Mr Esmaili, to Belgium. Mr Esmaili’s return to Belgium was being sought for the purposes of serving a sentence relating to convictions in Belgium for trafficking. However, Renata successfully opposed the extradition based on the fact that the European Arrest Warrant did not comply with various requirements of section 2 of the Extradition Act 2003 – as a result of which it was determined that the EAW was invalid and Mr Esmaili was discharged.
